I have read, as far as I know, almost all of this author's books and have always enjoyed them. This book was a huge disappointment to me! The overall plot was completely predictable and I knew how it would end within the first 50 pages. I thought the characters were stilted, with little to no depth. Also, I found several mistakes in the actual writing itself. On page 108, it says that the main character neglected to bring a "torch" (she's Irish) with her when going outside in the dark. Then, on the next page it says "Aiming her light through the gloom...." so apparently she has a "torch" after all! A few pages further, it now refers to a flashlight, rather then a torch. These are simple things that any good proofreader should have caught! I respect the author and have always liked her emphasis on a relationship with God throughout her novels, too, but even that is woefully lacking in this book. 😢Tags : Because You're Mine [Colleen Coble] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Because You're Mine Colleen Coble 9780718083809 Books Reviews
Let me preface this review by saying Colleen Coble is one of my favorite authors. I always enjoy her books and this one was no different in that respect. However, I will admit I figured out one of the biggest plot points from the start. However, that didn't diminish my enjoyment of the book, I still read with anticipation to the end to make sure I was right, but I'm usually caught up in the suspense a lot longer. Still this book is a very good read. I love Colleen's writing style. It always flows so well and makes me want to keep turning the pages until the end. Have to admit I was late getting ready for work because I was trying to finish this one.
Even though I have read many of Colleen Coble's books I have not found any that have not surprised me. The setting for "Because you're Mine" is in the south where as many of her other books have been in many other places. The mystery is well developed and kept a surprise until the end. I enjoyed her incorporation of a Irish lass and discriminatory attitudes towards people groups from the Irish community. This story line is captivating.
WOW, WOW, WOW! Colleen Coble has done it again, creating another absolutely great story. You cannot put the book down from the beginning to the end. I am a great fan of Colleen and have enjoyed every one of her books that I have read. This story is full of suspense, with many twists & turns. I cannot wait for Coleen's next book to be published. This is a must read!
This was such a good book. I read it in two nights. The book is different as it reminded me so much of the fiddler who plays for the Celtic women. There is both love and suspense. The author writes such good but clean mysteries or suspense novels. I have loved her books and suggest that you buy this book and see for yourself how love prevails even through hardship. As stated on the cover, "A mysterious painting, a haunting melody, and a love stronger than death leave Alanna questioning where darkness ends and light begins." Wonderful book and characters are well developed.
This book intrigued me from the start and I would consider it a modern day take on a gothic story. The mysteriousness of the storyline compelled me to continue to turn the pages long into the night. I could not quite connect with the character of Alanna. I somewhat understood why she did what she did, especially when her life took such an unreal turn. Pregnant and alone and receiving no help from family made her decisions more realistic. Her background was also a reason that made some of what I felt were poor decisions, more in line with her character. As I was reading this I was unsure of what and whom to trust. Everyone seemed distant and untrustworthy.
Ms. Coble definitely throws in some twists that make you think and second guess as Alanna, Jesse, and their bandmates did. However, some of the conclusions that they came up with were doozies and I was not sure what to make of them. At times I couldn’t wrap my mind on why they were thinking the way they were when a believable solution was not that far out of reach. For what it was, along the lines of a gothic novel, it was interesting and at times a creepy read. I just had to keep reality suspended.
I received a copy of this book for free. I was not required to post a positive review and the views and opinions expressed are my own.
I am a HUGE COBLE FAN, and BECAUSE YOU'RE MINE isn't really an exception to my love for her books. However, I couldn't give it
my usual 5-star rating for two reasons one, which I believe to be the fault of the transcribing of the book into ebook format, there are some
wrong word and spelling errors that are not typical of Coble but which do interrupt the flow of the text and distract the reader who is trying to determine what is meant; two, there are several places in the book where a character is doing something that is counter-manded by something else in the text [also not typical of Coble]. For example, at one point about a third of the way through, Jessie watches Patricia leave with her husband Richard but then she is angrily gathering the dirty dinner dishes off the table...which she couldn't be doing because she just left!
On the plus side, this is a riveting and compelling storyline that IS typical of Coble, so I read hungrily to follow the numerous turns and twists in the
plot. In that, I was not disappointed. In short, I think the flaws are not Coble's but the fault of inept transcription!
Colleen Coble is one of my favorite authors, but this is one of the most frustrating reads I have ever experienced. The main character is soooooo irritating, weak, and downright ridiculous. And the guy...I really have no words. Such a poor storyline and dreadful characters. So sorry Colleen for the 1 star, but it is not a good story.
