I don't understand the good reviews of this book. The mom runs away from the children, who follow her around the house. The mom gets mad. The characters don't come to any understanding. It feels like it stops in the middle of the story because there is no resolution. They just continue to follow her around the house and then the book is over. The children are sweet but messy. The mom is drawn as angry and glaring at the children and her dialogue is rude. She does not soften and the children do not relent. It isn't funny or silly or sweet. I'm at a loss. I am not going to read this to my kids. I am not sure what I'll do with this book.

Every mom needs this book. Seriously. It's a great way to teach little ones about time for self-care. The pictures are adorable and I think every momma can relate to the story about Mrs. Large who can't even have the bathroom to herself.
I grew up reading this book, and now as I'm older, I find it to be the perfect gift for any mother. What is more universal than a mother being followed around the house by her children needing her every attention? Charming with cozy illustrations.
This is a great book for put upon mothers everywhere. I found myself laughing as I read this book to my husband, but my 3 year old daughter was not as amused. I still liked it. #thetruthhurtskid
This was a favorite book of mine when my thirty-something children were young. It always seemed that when I jumped in the shower or tub, there was a knock on the door that needed my attention. This was purchased as a gift for a friend who has two preschoolers. I thought she would enjoy reading it to them.
Believe it or not I bought this for my 30 year old daughter-in-law. As a widow, she has 3 young kids she's raising on her own and I can only imagine how hard it is for her to find a few minutes of her own. This is a Christmas present and I'm sure she'll get a kick out of it.
I read this book to my kids 25 year ago and still love the story just as much as I did then. Any mother of several young children will appreciate Mrs. Large's quest to take a bath. Any mother can relate to how the children react when mom tries to take a bath! This book is classic and one of my all time favorite children's books. My sister-in-law sent it to me 25 years ago when we had four children under five years of age. I read it to the kids almost every night for a year! Delightful story. Great illustrations. The board book is sturdy and good quality.
I discovered this book years ago while staying over at my aunt's house. My little cousin woke me up early and was bouncing around the room excited for me to be visiting. I grumbled, and he very seriously asked me "would you like 5 minutes peace?" I was so excited! I said "Yes!" and cuddled back under the covers.... just to have him crawl in bed next to me and hand me this book. I laughed so hard I though I was going to fall off the bed!! Now its a favorite of mine, and my cousin is giving it to my Baby (pregnant and due in June) as a "welcome to the family" gift.

As an actual review of the book Its adorable. Perfectly captures a Mom's love for her children, while simultaneously wanting to just get a few minutes alone every once and a while.
