1st, I'm sorry Starr, but this was a massive failure. It was so boring it took me 9 days UNDER 300 pages. That may be an all time record for me.
The 2 stars are for the fact I found no typo's nor editing errors and no grammatical nor sentence problems. In that area the book is well written. But..........OMG! A snail can run faster than this book. It was like reading a textbook from school! You know, the ones you have to read to get a good grade and it nearly puts you to sleep after reading just one paragraph. This author even goes so far to give us estensive history lessons!
As far as 'Sex Scenes' go....... well, hmmmm, trying to think of how to put this.
Ah, I got it! Think of a sex scene written by a person who only writes 'Clean' scenes, avoids all use of any words that may be considered 'naughty, indelicate, colorful, intimate, or ADULT and there you go. That is your Steamy sex scene.
All the characters are boring. The world build is boring. The dialogue is boring. The entire book is Boring!. The best part is the very beginning. After that, it works best as a sedative. Make sure you have a pillow and your favorite blanket. It will put you out.

Kiss of Fire Dragonfire Book 1 Deborah Cooke 9780451223272 Books Reviews
This is a story of the conflict of good versus evil. Only in this story, at least in this first installment of the story, we are talking exclusively of good dragons or evil dragons.
I have never read any stories in this combination of genres (fantasy/paranormal/romance) before but the details of this book sounded interesting and I decided to take a chance. I'm really glad that I did because I thoroughly enjoyed the novel. Deborah Cooke creates a world where good dragons, Pyr, are in conflict with evil dragons, Slayers. They have definitions of their destinies which are completely opposite. The Slayers want to do just that, slay all of humanity. The Pyr want to save the human race from the destructive designs of the Slayers. There is an ancient dragon lore prophecy which says that The Smith (as in someone who forges metal) and The Seer (someone who can fortell the future) will come together to save the world. Quinn Tyrell is The Smith of lore and is a blacksmith in his human form. Sara Keegan is a completely human being who has opted out of the ratrace in order to put down roots and run the bookstore she inherited from her Aunt Magda. The meeting of these two characters is inevitable but what will the end result be? Could Sara be more than just an average woman?
I must say that I am quite surprised at how much I enjoyed reading this book. That doesn't mean that I am not aware of some areas of the book which made me raise my eyebrows or shake my head, but, for the most part, I think this author did a very good job of setting the stage for what will obviously be a lengthy series of books. As another reviewer mentioned, I had a hard time visualizing how large the dragons were. At one point Sara stood on tiptoe to kiss Quinn while he was in dragon form. That is probably as close as I can come to figuring out their size. I think Ms Cooke should address questions such as that in future books. Also, the "firestorm" which makes Sara and Quinn mutually attracted to each other seemed rather anticlimactic. The good thing is that the author did not rush into that situation, she allowed a lot of action to take place before Sara began to trust her feelings for Quinn. I am not a reader who needs to have intimate relations described to me in graphic detail so I appreciated that about the book but maybe the firestorm needs to sizzle a little longer in future books. And I really did understand that Sara had been an "ace" accountant in her corporate life. Hitting me over the head with that information time after time after time just got irritating. I also hope that Ms Cooke will find some way to make dragons stay dead once they die. I got confused about who was back and who was gone for good. And, I must admit, I finally began to skip over descriptions of the Pyr and Slayers fighting in the air.
Now, will I read the second book in this series? Absolutely yes! There is even book three which is almost ready for release so I'm sure I will read that one also. This dragon war interests me very much. Could it possibly be carried out right in the midst of our daily human lives? Well, this is a fantasy book you know.
What a wonderful book. Of course, romance is always fun. This is a great love romance that includes dragons. The plot is good versus evil but there are subplots that kept me turning pages and ignoring work and unimportant things like...sleep.
The characters develop throughout the book and I couldn't help but fall in love with the hero and heroine of the story. It was great that Author, Deborah Cooke, did not fall into the "erotica" trap that so many romance are falling prey to and using as the story plot. Erotica, in my book, does not create a better story and gets redundant quickly. The bad guys are cowards and it was easy to hate them.
I really enjoyed this book. It is a smooth read and has a lot of interesting twists and turns. There is plenty of action and suspense with a little dragon magic to keep things interesting. If you enjoy a good fantasy or romance, this book is for you. I am happy to recommend this book to teens and adults.
KUDOS Ms. Cooke on a tale well told. I will be purchasing the next book in the series right away.
Kiss of Fire is the first in the series which appears to follow the story of a different pyr (dragon). This book follows the story of Quinn, a pyr that is aka The Smith, and ace accountant turned book shop owner Sara.
Their story is one of instant love and a HEA. Their instant love is explained by the firestorm, which basically means it’s a brief connection between a pyr and woman that allows for a child to be born. The intense attraction/feelings ebb away after a child is conceived however the strong emotions remain between Quinn and Sara.
Quinn is a loner in his world and Sara is alone in the path she recently decided to follow. Together, Sara brings Quinn out of his shell and into the Pyr community. With Quinn, Sara doesn’t feel alone and she too is brought into the Pyr community. Overall it was a great book, I enjoyed Sara and Quinn’s relationship. There’s sex but it’s glossed over and there’s quite a few action/fight scenes which are that glossed over.
The next book as hinted at the end of Kiss of Fire will be about Donovan, another Pyr. He was a good supporting character that seemed to have an interesting story so I’ll be checking that one out as well.
