I liked all the stories but two were my favorites. Duchess of Scandal was the one I liked most. The Duke of Linton married Althea when she was eighteen .He mainly ignored her and she got into escapades with her younger brother. They now have been separated for five years. He comes by mistake at the same time she is staying there. He finds her changed no longer the silly girl. She knows he has a mistress . I liked it because second chance romances are my favorite. The four stories intertwine at a ball where four dukes come to and stay for the house party.i also liked May I Have This Duke .the story was about the Duke of Hardcastle and his governess Ellen Mac Hugh. She goes to the party as the governess but has to pretend to be his love. She has loved him for three years but will leave him after the ball to go to her family. You hope he will let her know how he feels. My least favorite was Waiting For A Duke Like You. I just didn't care for a princess being chased by assassins. One other reviewers said it was her favorite so you may feel the same.i think there is a story or stories for anyone in this collection.Tags : Dancing in The Duke's Arms: A Regency Romance Anthology [Grace Burrowes, Shana Galen, Miranda Neville, Carolyn Jewel] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. This is a great way to see if you like these author's, the price is spot.
My favorite of the stories was written by Miranda Neville and followed by Carolyn Jewell. Were there parts of the story I didn't care for in this bundle, yes. But also, very enjoyable to see how the house party caused so much upheaval in some of their lives.
My least favorite was by Shana Galen. I didn't care for the h at all. She didn't like the H because he was prettier than her - OH PLEASE!! After that announcement, I didn't care what happened to her.
I did enjoy the story by Grace Burrows. The h was endearing and at times I wanted to knock sense into the H head because he couldn't see the forest through the trees.
Yes, there is lovemaking - 3 I would consider mild, the other story not vulgar, just more.
I am not going into the premise of the stories, as the author's and others have explained in detail. If you are not familiar with these author's, this is a great way to get a taste of their writing.
We get HEA, no cliffhanger's, some romance, interesting character's, some stories have some twists and surprises. In the end, worth your time and money. (ljb)
In this anthology each story is connected by the Dukeries house party. As with most anthologies some of the stories are better than others, but I enjoyed all of these.
My least favorite was Waiting for a Duke Like You by Shana Galen. I love regency romances, but I have a personal quirk against royalty from 'fake' European countries so this is all on me. I did like the Duke in the story, but the plot seemed contrived. It was well-written though.
Miranda Neville’s story was a delight. The older Duke marrying a too young lady and the couple becoming estranged is a plot line that I enjoy. She matures and he unbends for a satisfying romantic story.
Grace Burrowes is one of my favorite authors so I very much enjoyed her story of the Duke and his romance with his governess.
Carolyn Jewel is another favorite. I wanted the story to be a little longer and fleshed out more, but it was a very enjoyable read.
This historical anthology is set in a section of Nottinghamshire known as the Dukeries. It’s a real place, nicknamed such during the nineteenth century because it contained several ducal estates.
The first, MAY I HAVE THIS DUKE, by Grace Burrowes, is a charming and witty tale of the stuffy Hammersley, Duke of Hardcastle, and his nephew’s smart and witty governess, Miss Ellen MacHugh. It’s filled with wonderful dialogue, with perfect English dry wit, and a sweet and sexy romance. I really love Ms. Burrowes writing voice!
WAITING FOR A DUKE LIKE YOU, by Shana Galen, shines with adventure. Cauley, Duke of Wyndover, avoiding the fawning misses at a house party, trips over a young woman asleep under a bridge. Princess Vivienne is the last of the royal family of Glynaven. She’s seeking asylum in England, if she can avoid the assassins trailing her long enough to reach safety. I love a hero story, with a brave duke willing to sacrifice all to protect a woman in danger. And there’s plenty of danger here, blended with a lovely romance.
DUCHESS OF SCANDAL, by Miranda Neville, is an estranged marriage story. The Duke of Linton and his duchess, Althea, have politely avoided each other for five years. But when they come together at his Dukeries’ estate by accident, they find the chemistry is still hot. The excellent conflict in this reuniting husband and wife plot is perfectly developed, with a charming resolution.
AN UNSUITABLE DUCHESS, by Carolyn Jewel is the story of the Duke of Stoke Taversault and the widowed Georgina Lark. Stoke is stoic and grumpy, and focused on the many responsibilities that come with his title. No woman could ever love him, for he manages to strike fear into others by simply striding into a room. But Georgina is not afraid of him, and recognizes the man within. These two stumble over each other before owning their attraction, and it's very well-done.
Each of these stories has its own charm, lovely characters and a sweet romance. Intertwined in them is the continuity of the spring celebration at the Dukeries, with house parties, picnics, scavenger hunts, a boating race, and balls. This is one of those that I was sorry to finish. They were so much fun, they left me wanting more. Enjoy!
